A shopper’s paradise
Merano has boomed, particularly over the last three years. International fashion chains such as H&M and Zara have moved into the old town of Merano. The atmosphere in the Via dei Portici (13th century) and the old town of Merano is an enchanting mix of culture and history, making shopping trips a pleasant experience for visitors. Merano’s Via dei Portici lies in the centre of the old town and consists of two rows of buildings with arcades underneath. The arcades are divided by a narrow thoroughfare and have always been known as the ‘water arcades’ and ‘mountain arcades’. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the arcades from the main railway station. There are also three large multi-storey car parks near Via dei Portici if you are travelling by car. Please ask at the reception for a city map of Merano. Your advantage as a Dolce Vita guest: exclusive discounts at TOP shops in Merano! Request your shopping card at the reception.
Market in Merano
Don’t miss the local market in Merano. It takes place every Friday from 8 am to around 1 pm. The market runs from Via Mainardo, close to the city centre, to Piazza Prader, right next to Merano’s main railway station. You can find a vast range of clothing, flowers, fruit and specialities at the market. The market gets especially crowded from 10 am in the summer months around August so we recommend visiting early!
